Nakasendo Walking Journey

The historic Nakasendo — the Samurai Road — preserves a rare atmosphere of old Japan. A private Nakasendo journey through Magome, Tsumago, Narai, and the Kiso Valley offers a refined way to experience one of the most evocative walking routes in Japan. Guided by Ryo Yoshimura, a national licensed guide born and raised along this route, the experience is shaped by local knowledge, cultural depth, and family roots tied to the old Nakasendo. His great grandfather worked as a 馬喰 (Bakuro), and the stories passed down through generations quietly enrich the journey.

Magome — Morning Light

Stone pathways rise through preserved wooden facades. Morning light settles gently across tiled roofs, and the town wakes up quietly.

Tsumago — Evening Dignity

Nature: Emerald-green rivers and Forest

Along the Nakasendo, there are breathtaking waterfalls and emerald-green rivers — making a short detour a truly rewarding idea.

Yabuhara, Torii Pass, Narai — Quiet Elegance

Starting from Yabuhara and crossing the Torii Pass to Narai, this route offers a rich immersion in Japan’s natural landscape. It leads through forests of hinoki cypress, cedar, pine, and bamboo, with occasional views of Mt. Ontake and the Central Alps. After exploring Narai, a visit to Kiso-Hirasawa for traditional lacquerware is recommended. (See: 1 Day, Yabuhara to Kiso-Hirasawa via Narai)
